SSZ-13 is a chabazite (CHA)-type aluminosilicate zeolite mineral in the ABC-6 family of zeolites. SSZ-13 has a topology similar to chabazite, but SSZ-13 has a high silica composition. The Si/Al ratio is > 5, which results in a low cation exchange capacity. SSZ-13 was patented in 1985 by the Chevron Corporation and is used as a solid catalyst in the methanol-to-olefins (MTO) process and in the selective catalytic reduction of NOx. In addition, SSZ-13 is useful for gas adsorption separation of small organic molecules, industrial waste gas treatment, air purification, and hydrogen storage.
